In tribute to Martin Luther King Jr., the Choral Arts Chorus and the Washington Performing Arts Gospel Choirs raise joyful voices, performing the powerful music that has given voice to the voiceless for generations. This performance will also feature the presentation of Choral Arts’ 14th annual Humanitarian Award to activist Ruby Bridges, who, in 1960, was the first black child to desegregate William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans.

Mount Vernon is offering free admission to all on Presidents Day (also known as George Washington’s Birthday). At 10 a.m., there will be a presidential tribute and wreath-laying at the Tomb, followed by the official observance ceremony. Activities later in the day include character performances, birthday card making, a military demonstration, hickory syrup tastings, a musical salute, book signings and, of course, cake eating.
