Suspicious Package Found at Duke Ellington School

Around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, a suspicious package was found at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts on 35th Street NW, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. Students were evacuated to Hardy Middle School, which is two blocks north of the high school on 35th Street.

Police closed streets near the school, with parts of 35th and R Streets blocked. Reservoir Road remained open.

The all-clear was issued by police before 1:30 p.m. No injuries were reported. Streets have reopened.

The public magnet high school — named after the music legend who was born in Washington, D.C. — has about 530 students. It reopened in August after a $174-million renovation.
