Glover Park Trader Joe’s to Open Friday

Glover Park’s long-awaited Trader Joe’s store will open this Friday, July 19, at 2101 Wisconsin Ave. NW, near Whitehaven Street and one block north of the Georgetown Safeway.

There will be a brief ribbon cutting before the 8 a.m. opening. According to Trader Joe’s: “The celebration is scheduled to continue throughout the morning with live music, food tastings, giveaways and more. Store Captain Tom Senior, a 15-year veteran of the company, and Trader Joe’s Crew Members will be on hand to welcome customers to their neighborhood Trader Joe’s store … It will also feature murals that pay tribute to local landmarks and attractions including the National Cathedral and the Naval Observatory.”

The 15,000-square-foot grocery store, part of the redevelopment by JBG Smith Properties of what was the Georgetown Holiday Inn, is centered around a luxe condo, the Glover House, opening later this year.

This will be the fifth Trader Joe’s in Washington, D.C. The California-based company boasts more than 485 stores.
