Photographer Jeff Malet shares some of his memorable images from the Nation’s Capital over the prior 12 months, many having appeared earlier in The Georgetowner.
The year’s biggest story of course was the impeachment of President Donald J. Trump. The year was also punctuated by a multitude of street protests, and landmark Surpeme Court decisions. 1n 2019, Rolling Thunder motorcyclists made their 32nd and final scheduled ride though the District on Memorial Day weekend; and the Newseum closed its doors after a dozen years at its Pennsylvania Ave. location. World War II veterans attended the 75th anniversary of D-Day at the World War II Memorial. The 50th anniversary of the moon landing was celebrated on the National Mall with a 363-foot Saturn V rocket projected onto the Washington Monument. The Smithsonian Institution named Lonnie Bunch III as its first African American secretary, and 15 year old Coco Gauff teamed with 17 year old Caty McNally to claim the doubles crown at the Citi Open in Rock Creek Park.
