Georgetown Introduces #TakeOutTuesday

Christi Cline of Urban Sherpa Georgetown has partnered with #TakeOutTuesday. Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner Elizabeth Miller came up with the idea last summer to support local restaurants to get more business during the ongoing pandemic. She organized four captains around the neighborhood to help spread the word, Cline being one of them. Ward 2 Council member Brooke Pinto will also help by raising awareness on her social media outlets.

Each week, the initiative will select two Georgetown restaurants to feature. Patrons will learn more about the restaurant owners and why they love Georgetown. Some will have special #TakeOutTuesday menus and others will offer delivery and some special items.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 2, marks the first #TakeOutTuesday. Peacock Café and Chaia Taco will be the featured restaurants. Peacock Café will offer 30 percent off bottles of still wine with the mention of #TakeOutTuesday.

Peacock Café’s Shahab Farivar reflected on what hospitality means to him. “It means so much to us. To be honest, it goes back to how we were raised,” he said. “We’re from a large family and our parents always brought everyone together.”

Similarly, Bettina Stern said hospitality is at the core of what Chaia Taco is. “We hire individuals who are as passionate about our tacos as we are and embody generosity, optimism and warmth,” she said. “We want our customers to be greeted with smiles and friendly ‘hellos’ and ‘how are yous,’ and to always feel welcome at Chaia.”

Let Cline know about your participation in #TakeOutTuesday by emailing her at christimcline@gmail.com. If you can, snap a photo of yourself picking up the food or enjoying your meal, so it can be shared on social media. You may get a little special something in your takeout bag. And stay tuned each week for new featured restaurants in Georgetown.
