Fairmont’s Pop-Up Lounge Celebrates the Blossoms

During the month of April, Fairmont Washington, D.C., is saluting spring with afternoon tea in the festively decorated Cherry Blossom Pop-Up Lounge on the hotel’s ninth floor. Tea service is available every Saturday and Sunday at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The handsome rooms — with socially distanced seating — are enhanced with cherry blossom art by Diana Bulger, area director of public relations.

Executive Chef Jordi Gallardo and Executive Pastry Chef A.J. Thalakkat have created an elegant array of temptations. Guests are welcomed with a sakura and peach blossom gelée, combining pickled cherry blossoms and peach blossom sake. Savory sandwiches include prosciutto and cucumber served on a pretzel croissant with herb cream cheese and curried chicken with mango. The elderflower and strawberry Battenberg cake was said to have been a favorite sweet of Princess Diana.

The wide assortment of loose teas can be further enhanced with a glass of champagne or sparkling wine.

The hotel is located at 2401 M St. NW. Reservations for tea are required. To reserve, visit fairmontwashington.eventbrite.com.
