Crime Report: Homeless Incidents, Arrests, Thefts


The following is a selection of crimes, incidents and arrests occurring in or around Georgetown over the last 35 days. Information provided by the Metropolitan Police Department, in part.

Aug. 20 — An incident of indecent exposure and public urination on the sidewalk on the 2700 block M Street NW was reported by residents, who claimed the person was from the homeless encampment at M Street near Rock Creek. The act was caught on video by Georgetown Salon Spa at 2715 M St. NW. Complaints have been lodged with MPD and the National Park Service, according to the Corcoran Unit Owners Association, which added that an uncontrolled fire was ignited at the homeless campsite on July 31 (and extinguished by the D.C. Fire Department), that there was “an assault and battery in broad daylight of a passer-by” as well as the incidents of  “repeated public defecation by campers and heaps of uncontainered trash.” The group is calling for “the removal of this unlawful encampment.”

Aug. 19 — Arrest on K Street NW. 28 year-old Michael Carty, Jr, of Atco, NJ, was arrested for an Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle offense that occurred in the 3300 block of Water Street, Northwest. 

Aug. 14 — Arrest Made in an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon Offense: 1300 Block of Columbia Road. Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District announced an arrest has been made in reference to an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) offense that occurred on Saturday, Aug. 14, in the 1300 block of Columbia Road NW. At approximately 9:05 pm, the suspect approached the victims, uniformed Special Police Officers, at the listed location. The suspect brandished a handgun and pointed it towards the victims. The suspect then fled the scene but was apprehended by one of the Special Police Officers. On Aug. 14, 23 year-old Kortez Malik Tresvant, of Southeast D.C. was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun).

July 24 — Theft: 2500 block of Wisconsin Ave. NW.

July 19 — Theft: 3400 block of N Street NW.  

July 18 — Suspect, Vehicle Sought in a Robbery (Snatch), 3000 Block of Q Street. Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Second District seek the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect and vehicle in reference to a Robbery (Snatch) offense that occurred on Sunday, July 18, 2021, in the 3000 block of Q Street NW. At approximately 7:35 am, the suspect approached the victim at the listed location. The suspect snatched property from the victim then fled the scene in a vehicle. July 17 — Theft: 1400 block of Wisconsin Avenue NW.

July 15 — Robbery: 1900 block of Wyoming Avenue NW.

July 14 — Burglary Suspect Sought. Around 3:30 p.m., suspect entered a location in the 1900 block of L St. NW, took property and fled scene. He was captured on a nearby surveillance camera.
