The 56th annual Fourth of July parade in Washington, D.C.’s Palisades neighborhood made a strong and sunny comeback this year. The happily, loosey-goosey, fun-loving mixture of marchers — from Mayor Muriel Bowser to Scottish drummers, Bolivian dancers, beauty queens and the Yachtsmen. Candy or toys were tossed to the crowd along MacArthur Boulevard by business folks and politicians. Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee, who lives near the parade route, walked with his men and greeted everyone enthusiastically. The patriotic, hometown celebration made the children laugh and the ladies smile. Happy 246th birthday, America.
