Whitman-Walker and Reid Rodell, an event management and consulting firm, launched “The Corner at Whitman-Walker” last week. An event rental and community gathering space, The Corner at Whitman-Walker is located at 1701 14th St. NW.
The Corner was originally the entrance and lobby of The Whitman-Walker Clinic. The clinic previously served LGBTQ and HIV positive members of the community who needed a place to receive care. Architect Annabelle Selldorf designed the space to become a location for cultures and communities to get together.
Rental proceeds will go toward Whitman-Walker operations. The capacity at The Corner is 125 guests and rates will vary based on dates, event needs and time needed in the space. Non-profit groups get 20 percent off.
“As a minority- and LGBTQ-owned business, we are honored to get an opportunity to partner with Whitman-Walker,” said Anthony Rodell, co-principal, and chief architect officer of Reid Rodell. “Their mission and our work align in a seamless and beneficial way.”
There are different set-ups for The Corner, including styles of: standing reception, seated dinner, theater and classroom.
“We are delighted to partner with Reid Rodell on this exciting new chapter of The Corner,” said Abby Fenton, Chief External Affairs Officer at Whitman-Walker. “This gorgeous space allows us to introduce Whitman-Walker to hundreds of new folx while also helping to support our mission through event rentals.”
Whitman-Walker has been a part of the local community for over 50 years. Today, Whitman-Walker is a collective of 501 (c)(3) organizations centered around bringing care to the community.
