A contemporary art exhibition featuring works by women from the United Arab Emirates is coming to the Fathom Gallery in Georgetown from September 23 to October 14.

The show, titled While the Coffee Grounds Settle: Stories from Women in the UAE, features a diverse group of female artists from across the UAE who span nationalities, generations and artistic styles. Their works examine how indoor social spaces, like the living room, can foster community-building among women. They are also a reflection of the experiences and environments that have shaped the artists as women. The exhibition is presented by the UAE Embassy in Washington, DC in partnership with Dirwaza Curatorial Lab, an Abu Dhabi-based creative incubator.

While the Coffee Grounds Settle: Stories from Women in the UAE opens on Friday, September 23 at 11:00AM, coinciding with the return of Georgetown’s Art All Night. As part of the Art All Night performances and activities with participating local businesses, the exhibition will remain open to visitors until 10:00PM on September 23. All are welcome to view the gallery and enjoy traditional Emirati coffee and dates. Free coloring books will be available for children.

The Georgetown Compass Coffee café will also be offering free coffee drinks at Art All Night until 9pm, courtesy of the UAE Embassy, as part of the exhibition’s grand opening.

Following Art All Night, the gallery is open daily from 11:00AM to 6:00PM through October 14 (with the exception of October 12 and 13) at the Fathom Gallery in Georgetown. Admission is free.
