Business Ins & Outs: Maman, Tiachi, Kyojin, Two Nine; Eagle Bank

In: Maman to Open on Feb. 14

Maman, NYC’s French bakery and café, will open at 1353-1355 Wisconsin Ave. NW on Feb. 14 and feature its signature sweet treats, cozy drinks — along with a dedicated room, “The Study,” catering to Georgetown students, the company said. Expect Maman classics like famous Nutty Chocolate Chip Cookies and Croque Maman as well as seasonal specials like White Chocolate Rose Cookies in time for Valentine’s Day.

The Citizens Association of Georgetown will hold a meet-and-greet there on Thursday, Feb. 9.

In: Tiachi Bubble Tea Opens Friday

Next to Maman, Tiachi Bubble Tea at 1357 Wisconsin Ave. NW will have a soft opening, it says, on Friday, Feb. 10. It’s a nice add-on to a reinvigorated block that includes Compass Coffee and Luigi Parasmo Salon and Spa. The fast casual eatery will “bring the best bubble tea, healthy poke bowl, and tasty ramen.” It’s part of a chain, mostly from Upstate New York, headquartered in Rochester.

The group behind Arlington’s Yume Sushi is set to open Kyojin Sushi at 3315 Cady’s Alley NW Suite B, in the former L2 space, next to Kafe Leopold.

“Kyojin represents a dream of all of ours: expanding our vision and bringing chef Kannasute’s world-class Japanese cooking to new audiences,” said Jeff King, co-owner at Yume Hospitality Group, in a statement last year. He got a chance to talk to the Georgetown-Burleigh Advisory Neighborhood Commission about the restaurant, which he hoped would open around mid-March — but added that April was a more realistic opening date.

The zen-like place will have 130 seats, 15 bar stools and 14 chefs, according to King.

In: Cafe con Bagel

Can one ever have too many bagels? How about coffee? Cafe con Bagel — coffee with a bagel — plans to open next month 1332 Wisconsin Ave. NW in the former Petite Soeur space and, before that, the Cookie Dough Jar and, before that, Beard Papa, a cream puff shop.

Coming: Two Nine Sushi at Congress Court

But, wait, there’s more sushi to come — as in the Hawaiian-influenced sushi and chirashi restaurant Two Nine — being shoehorned and built in place of a former parking area on Congress Court. That’s the alley the runs east-west between 31st Street and Wisconsin Avenue.

Zach Ramos and Amy Phan of Ama Ami and, before that, Sushi Taro plan to open the two-story, 1,500-square-foot restaurant later in the spring. Expect artful chirashi bowls as well as a omakase counter. The address is 1218 31st St. NW, same as the Ultra Violet flower shop.
