Happy almost Friday! Luckily, tomorrow’s St. Patrick’s Day and it’s an action-packed weekend. Enjoy “Ireland on The Wharf,” the Georgetown Art Walk on Book Hill, the 31st D.C. Environmental Film Festival, loads of musical performances and the chance for a Cherry Blossom staycation…

Check Out the St. Patrick’s Day Weekend Festivities on The Wharf

Don your best green outfit and head down to The Wharf for “Ireland at The Wharf” Saturday afternoon. Kirwan’s Irish Pub is partnering with The Wharf for a Guinness Beer Garden, live music, authentic Irish dance, the Six Nations Rugby Championship on the big screen with Ireland vs. England and more. … Speaking of St. Patrick’s Day, The Fairmont is Hosting a Wee Celebration of Their Own 

On March 17 from 2 – 10 p.m., head to The Fairmont Georgetown for an afternoon of all things Irish. Food specials include Shepherd’s pie and corned beef and cabbage. Those with the most creative St. Paddy’s Day attire have the chance to win a complimentary green beer. No reservations are necessary to partake in the revelry. More information can be found here. 

Swallow it Down and See “Jagged Little Pill” 

Now through March 26, see the musical inspired by Alanis Morrissette’s 1995 album of the same name at The National Theatre. The show was nominated for a season record of 15 Tony Awards following its Broadway premiere. It was written by Tony and Academy Award winning writer Diablo Cody (“Juno,” “Tully”) with plenty of input from Morrissette herself. So, if you were a fan of her music the show is a must see. Don’t let this be the good advice that you just didn’t take — grab tickets here.

Gallery Hop to This: Georgetown Art Walk

Join Georgetown Main Street in a celebration of spring, creativity and art on Book Hill in Georgetown for the Spring Art Walk on Saturday March 18, from 12 – 4:00 p.m. The event will feature six local galleries showcasing a diverse range of artwork, including paintings and mixed media pieces plus live music and art workshops. Meet and chat with the artists at participating galleries, including Addison/Ripley, Washington Printmakers, Klagsbrun Studios, Gallery Article-15, Calloway Fine Arts, L’Enfant Gallery, and Georgetown: Shop Made in DC.

The 31st edition of the Environmental Film Festival in the nation’s capital returns to venues across the D.C. Metro area for in-person screenings March 16 – 26, 2023. This hybrid festival will also include a robust slate of virtual programming. For film listings and ticketing information go here

Classical Compositions: Chad Lawson, Judy Kang and Seth Parker Woods Perform at Sixth & I 

Chad Lawson, a North Carolina pianist and composer, is performing original works and new arrangements of classical compositions at Sixth & I this Saturday at 8 p.m. He’ll be joined by violinist Judy Kang and musician Seth Parker Woods. Lawson is known as a technical innovator for his work with loops, effects and textured landscapes created on piano. You can get tickets to the show, presented by Washington Performing Arts, here.

The Washington Bach Consort to Perform “Messiah” 

Did you know that Handel’s Messiah was traditionally performed during Lent? Now many, of course, hear it during the holiday season. The Washington Bach Consort is returning to Messiah’s historical roots performing it at The Music Center at Strathmore on Sunday at 4 p.m. Soloists include soprano Sonya Headlam, countertenor Patrick Dailey, tenor Dann Coakwell and bass Jonathan Woody. Relax with Bach’s “Mass in B Minor” 

The awe-inspiring work of Bach’s “Mass in B Minor” is being performed with Maestro Piotr Gajewski and the National Philharmonic Chorale. The majestic piece of classical music offers a sense of intimacy while at the same time remaining supreme in its power. More information on how to grab tickets can be found here.
