Real Estate: On Top of the World & Behind the Scenes with Nancy Taylor Bubes

•The Georgetowner’s June 14 print issue features a swimsuit-themed cover (with some flag accoutrements in honor of Flag Day!) A photo gallery below takes you behind the scenes of the cover photography, which was shot at the penthouse home of Washington Fine Properties’ Nancy Taylor Bubes.
“Nancy’s secret to success is saying YES!” says The Georgetowner Publisher Sonya Bernhardt. “She knows best when it comes to helping this community and what better way than to offer her beautiful home in Georgetown for our summer swimsuit fashion shoot coming out on Flag Day.”
Both President Wilson, in 1916, and President Coolidge, in 1927, issued proclamations asking for June 14 to be observed as the National Flag Day. But it wasn’t until August 3, 1949, that Congress approved the national observance, and President Harry Truman signed it into law. Post-pandemic and with an election year looming, it’s important to come together with a sense of patriotism and rally around the unifying meaning of the flag.
For her part, Nancy Taylor Bubes is seen as a unifier in her community and in the real estate profession. She shared a quick market update with us.
“It was great to compare 2023 numbers to last year, 2022,” Bubes, head of the NTB Group of Washington Fine Properties, told The Georgetowner.
“Sixty two homes have sold over $1 million in Georgetown so far this year,” Bubes said. “Half of those were over $2 million. This is at our current interest rates at around 6.5 percent. During the same months last year, with rates being around 4 percent, we had 64 home sales in that same range. And, again, only half were homes in excess of $2 million. I think this speaks very positively about our Georgetown market.”
“My prediction is that we will still continue with healthy sales throughout the summer and fall and right through the 2024 election,” she added. “The hope is that an election year will bring lower interest rates and lower gas prices.”
Concerning the retail and commercial side, Bubes said, “I feel it is very exciting the direction the neighborhood is going in with all the new shops and restaurants that are coming in and some new faces on the scene here now. In a recent conversation, someone mentioned that Georgetown is now one of the top three ‘cool’ neighborhoods to go to in Washington, D.C.! For those of us that live here, we feel there is no place better to live. It is always reassuring to hear about D.C.’s popularity from others. It was great to see the Apple store reopen the other day — and, of course, nothing like a new ice cream shop. I applaud our team of commercial leaders working together to build a more vibrant commercial area which only leads to a healthier and safer residential area.”
Models for the shoot were from The Artist Agency, whose founder and president is Lynda Erkiletian.
The cover shoot is the brainchild of Fashion Director Allyson Burkhardt.
