Business Ins & Outs: Alo, Diptyque, Pasha Castle; Filomena at 40


In: Alo Yoga to Open June 9

The popular yoga clothing and accessory company Alo has taken over the prime Georgetown retail space previously occupied by Banana Republic at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and M Street — 3200 M St. NW. It plans to open on June 9.

Here’s how Alo describes itself: “We live yoga and we love yoga. Alo began in Los Angeles in 2007 because the founders wanted to spread good by bringing yoga to the world: to anyone who is experiencing the transformative power of yoga, to the world’s best yogis who wear Alo because it’s the only line that actually elevates their practice, to the celebrities and the fashion-forward who wear Alo because it’s the perfect street brand, comfortable, contemporary and decidedly not just for the mat.”

They call it “studio-to-street sweet.”  

In: Diptyque Reopens

Diptyque, the luxury French fragrance brand, has reopened its Georgetown location at 3273 M St. NW, having made its debut just before Christmas. Founded in the 1960s, St. Germain Diptyque is best known for its high-priced candles but also offers eau de parfum, eau de toilette and perfume oil diffusers. It also sells bath and body products. 

In: Pasha Castle on M Opens Friday

Mediterranean food rules … apparently. Pasha Castle Sweets & Tea will open Friday, June 2, at 3279 M St. NW. Here’s how they describe themselves: Pasha Castle “is a charming and thriving small business nestled in the heart of the vibrant and historic neighborhood of Georgetown, Washington, DC. With a mission to deliver unparalleled Mediterranean sweets and tea experiences to the discerning palates of the D.C. area, we take immense pride in creating delightful moments for our valued customers. Our dedication to exceptional customer service and our deep appreciation for the richness of Mediterranean culture set us apart.” Say hello on Friday.

Coming: Frame on M

Frame is set to occupy the store abandoned by Michael Kors during the pandemic. Renovations are ongoing at 3105 M St. NW. Founded in 2010, Frame is an American fashion-retail company that designs and sells high-end clothing for men and women. The company is known for its denim jeans and hand bags sold at retail outlets in the United States that were first popular with models Karlie Kloss, Miranda Kerr, and Emily Ratajkowski.

Out: The Showroom

The Showroom at 1363 Wisconsin Ave. NW, which had taken over the former space of Riccardi Clothier, is now closed. The sneaker boutique was set up to buy and sell shoes.

Out: Arlandria Floors

The flooring showroom at 3210 O St NW is now empty, but its original location continues on Mount Vernon Avenue in Alexandria remains — since 1969.

Happy 40th Birthday, Filomena!

Filomena Ristorante at 1063 Wisconsin Ave. NW is celebrating its 40th anniversary. The classic Italian restaurant has been feeding and satisfying generations of Georgetowners, Washingtonians and everyone else since May 23, 1983. Well known and well loved by so many — whether it be Helmut Kohl, Bill Clinton, Jeh Johnson or Brian Fink — for its fettuccine Alfredo, lasagna veal chops or cheesecake, Filomena is looking good at 40 and expanding next door with its new Filomena Emporium.
