YMCA’s ‘Thingamajig Invention Convention’ Brings Out Kids’ Creativity

Next week, the YMCA’s “Thingamajig Invention Convention” will invite hundreds of children for an in-person, hands-on science fair and festival August 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Children can meet experts, see demonstrations, work on solo and group challenges, and more. Hundreds of kids have already been participating in the Thingamajig’s S.T.E.A.M. pre-challenges throughout July. Those who came up with the most innovative solutions will get prizes and acknowledgement.

The event will take place at the United States Patent & Trademark Office in Alexandria. Some Thingamajig categories include:

-Robot Magic, where children can design a robot to perform a task that helps make the world a better place.

-Zero Waste Trashion Fashion, which allows participants to design fashion from “things found and unfound.”

-Scrap Art, which has children use their imaginations and creativity to design a piece of art from scraps and other found objects.
