The Theatre Lab’s Cabaret Benefit Dinner and Auction was held at the Ritz-Carlton Washington, D.C. on Nov. 5. The benefit featured a silent auction and cocktail reception followed by a three-course dinner, a live auction and highlights from this year’s Theatre Lab performances.
The Theatre Lab honored the founders of GALA Hispanic Theatre (Grupo de Artistas Latino Americanos) — Rebecca Medrano and her late husband, Hugo Medrano.
The event raised more than $330,000. A live auction highlight was dinner for eight with Dr. Anthony Fauci at the home of Theatre Lab Board Chair Ellen Perry — “No topic off limits.”
For more than 45 years, GALA has celebrated and preserved Latino arts and culture in Washington, D.C., by amplifying work that resonates with diverse communities. GALA is also a longtime partner of the Theatre Lab’s Life Stories program, which elevates the voices of traditionally underrecognized populations through personal storytelling.
The Theatre Lab School of the Dramatic Arts transforms lives through accessible, high-quality theatre education. For 30 years, the Theatre Lab has offered a wide range of programming for students of all ages, from beginning theatre artists to professional actors. The organization believes acting is a powerful tool that, when applied, can help anyone better understand themselves, on stage and off. The Theatre Lab is more than the largest theatre school in the Washington area — it is also a welcoming and supportive community of theatre artists, actors and students that make the artistic and real-life benefits of theatre training accessible to all.
