Check Out the Washington Polish Film Festival
This weekend, don’t miss the Washington Polish Film Festival, organized by the Kosciuszko Foundation at E Street Cinema at 555 11th St. NW. The festival will be a showcase of Polish cinema with a wide range of movies representing Poland’s heritage and modern narratives. More information on tickets can be found here.

Speaking of Film Festivals—Don’t Miss the 34th Washington Jewish Film Festival and 23rd Washington Jewish Music Festival
The Edlavitch DCJCC Arts Festival that includes the 34th Washington Jewish Film Festival and 23rd Washington Jewish Music Festival, kicks off this evening. Don’t miss over 60 international screenings and concerts, as well as film screenings at Cafritz Hall, Bethesda Row Cinema and Cinema Arts Theatre in Fairfax. GALA Hispanic Theatre Presents: “Mummy in the Closet: Evita’s Return”

Opening this evening through June 9 is GALA Hispanic Theatre’s production starring Helen Hayes Award winner Fran Tapia as Eva Peron. “Mummy in the Closet: Evita’s Return” is a dark musical comedy that blends bits of tango, waltz, and salsa. More information on how to get tickets can be found here.

The Washington National Opera Presents a New Production of “Turandot”
A new production of Puccini’s classic opera “Turandot” begins its run Saturday evening through May 25. There will be a new ending by two-time Grammy Award winner composer Christopher Tin and Emmy Award winner librettist Susan Soon He Stanton. Francesa Zambello, artistic director, directs the show which commemorates the 100th anniversary of the premiere of the opera and the death of Puccini. The Washington Chorus in Partnership with The National Philharmonic Will Perform “L’Eternel”
Don’t miss a performance of the sacred choral works of Beethoven, Igor Stravinsky, and Lili Boulanger at this concert by The Washington Chorus in partnership with the National Philharmonic. There is one show only—Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore. More information on the performance can be found here.

Check Out a Film Screening at The National Museum of Women in the Arts

This evening, don’t miss a special film screening of “Fly with Me,” a new PBS documentary (part of its “American Experience” series that examines the young women who became flight attendants in the 1960s. Stewardesses, as they were called then, had opportunities for travel that many women had not had up until that time. Post-screening, stick around for a panel discussion featuring Sarah Colt, the film’s writer and director, a former flight attendant at TWA and author Ann Hood, and Casey Grant, who was one of the first African American flight attendants for Delta. Executive producer of “American Experience” Cameo George will moderate the talk. More information can be found here.

EU Open House is Back
The annual European Union Open House is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Embassies will open their doors for peeks inside diplomatic buildings, interacting with diplomats, and of course, plenty of food, music, and dance performances. More information on the event can be found here.

Take Mom for a Nice Meal at Mount Vernon
Mount Vernon (specifically the Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant) is offering a Mother’s Day Buffet Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Enjoy delectable entrees like herb crusted beef medallions, butternut squash risotto, and shave brussel and couscous salad. Don’t Miss a Special Temporary Exhibit Honoring Modern Fashion
The exhibit “Fashioning Power, Fashioning Peace” showcases authentic clothing from over 30 different countries and territories. It will run Wednesday through Saturday in one-hour timeslots or self-guided tours (Saturday only). More information on the event can be found here.
