Real Estate-Featured Property: 1314 28th St. NW

Another historical home has hit the real estate market. This time, author, journalist and professor Walter Isaacson’s townhome has hit the market. Many may know Isaacson for his biographies on Steve Jobs and Elon Musk. In 2017, his home he shared with his wife Cathy was listed for nearly $5 million, and recently, it was listed for $7.5 million.

The home, located at 1314 28th St. NW, is rich in local history, built in 1801 and includes seven bedrooms and six bathrooms. The front door has an antique brass lock, and the home is situated on a 6,748 square-foot lot. It was once two homes and spans the full block between 28th and 29th Streets NW. If you crave privacy (as many Georgetowners do!), there’s a gorgeous back garden with an automatic irrigation system, lighting and a pool can easily be put in.

Renovations have been completed over the last few years, most recently combining the two divided HVAC systems, allowing for new high-end technology to be incorporated.

The living room boasts nine-foot ceilings, with a balcony and fireplace. The library (or family room, depending on preference), has two walls of built-ins as well as a fireplace and a set of double pane glass French doors to the garden area. The kitchen is brand new and outfitted with German technology with Seimatic cabinetry and Gaggenau appliances. A cozy study also has an original stone fireplace.

“The house is special and unique for Georgetown for so many reasons,” said current listing agent Jean Hanan. “All rooms are flooded in light, but most entrancing are those with the garden views, in particular the all glass sunroom.

Perhaps the best of all though is the fact that the East Village property has parking for three cars, which is a hot commodity in Georgetown!
