Jordin Sparks to Light CityCenterDC Tree
Don’t miss Grammy-nominated singer Jordin Sparks, along with the American Pops Orchestra, on Saturday as they light the CityCenterDC’s tree. The tree lighting is in its eleventh year. Sparks will perform as city leaders (including EventsDC) light the 75-foot tree to ring in the holiday season. More information on the lighting can be found here.
Start the “25 Days of Cocktails” with the Ritz Carlton
The Ritz-Carlton Georgetown, Washington D.C. is starting its holiday festivities this weekend. 25 Days of Cocktails starts this Sunday with a rotating selection of over two dozen drinks served in The Living Room from 5 p.m. to midnight daily. More information can be found here.
Ready, Set, Shop: The DowntownDC Holiday Market is Now Open
Head downtown for all things festive at the DowntownDC Holiday Market. The market is now in its 20th year and is free and open to the public November 22 through December 23 from noon to 8 p.m. There are over 100 artisans selling handmade goods, local products and more. Some noteworthy new things happening this year include a dedicated food area with cozy treats like s’mores and churros, live entertainment, and “Rudolph’s Reindeer Games,” a children’s activity area. Celebrate Small Business Saturday in Georgetown
Don’t forget—Small Business Saturday is November 30. Georgetown small businesses are celebrating in a big way. There will be promotions happening throughout the community at local businesses. A few noteworthy ones include Calloway Fine Art & Consulting offering buy one small Allan Cummin painting, get one ½ off, and Boat House Apparel is hosting live music and local treats for shoppers. Miss Georgetown Glow? Check out Light Yards This Weekend
If you’re missing Georgetown Glow this year, Light Yards is a great alternative. Now through January 1, from 5-10 p.m., an interactive light installation will be free to the public nightly. The fan favorite “Swinging Bells” returns too with 13-foot-tall lit bells that jingle when you swing on them. Little ones will love the Light Yards Express too, a train ride through the light show with holiday giveaways like glow necklaces and reindeer ears. Explore 18th Century Food at Mount Vernon
This weekend, take the whole family to visit Mount Vernon for their “Holiday Foodways” event. There will be opportunities to learn about holiday food traditions that were brought to Mount Vernon by enslaved Africans, story time, and an opportunity to watch the Historic Trades team take tropical evergreen tree seeds to make into chocolate. Visit The National Portrait Gallery for “A Day With(out) Art”
“A Day With(out) Art” was founded 35 years ago by a group of artists as an international day of action and awareness regarding the AIDS crisis. The National Portrait Gallery is hosting a program Saturday from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. with a film screening of shorts commissioned by Visual AIDS. There will also be curator-led tours of the “Felix Gonzalez-Torres: Always to Return” exhibit. The Kogod Courtyard at the gallery will also host art activities and the American University Humanities Truck will be parked outside the museum. More information on the event can be found here.
