•We’re in full-on, Buddy the Elf level holiday fun this weekend. Celebrate the season with Georgetown Jingle on Saturday, The Wharf is hosting its annual holiday boat parade, Folger introduces a new “Frost Fair” and much more.
Jingle and Mingle in Georgetown on Saturday
The first-ever holiday music event in Georgetown is this Saturday evening. Don’t miss 10 live music performances at 10 outdoor locations around Georgetown. Over 40 Georgetown shops, restaurants and services will be offering special discounts, refreshments and pop-up events through the day. There will be a procession of the St. Lucia Choir from the Embassy of Sweden to Washington Harbour at the Georgetown Waterfront too. For more information on the event, click here.
I Saw Three Ships Come Sailing In—at The Wharf’s Boat Parade
This free Saturday event at The Wharf showcases over 60 decorated boats that sail along the Washington Channel. In addition to the parade, there are festive things to do like sip hot toddies, listen to live music and ornament making. More information on the parade can be found here.
Sing it With Us Now at The National Theatre: “Sweet Caroline…ba ba ba!”
Now through Sunday only, “A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical” is showing at The National Theatre. The show takes audiences through Diamond’s life, with his humble beginnings in Brooklyn to becoming a 120 million+ albums sold rock star. Go Retro with Cherry Poppin’ Daddies’ WWII Tiki Xmas Canteen at Wolf Trap
The swing band Cherry Poppin’ Daddies is hosting a retro circa World War II Christmas celebration at The Barns at Wolf Trap Friday evening. The band, who is best known for their 1997 hit “Zoot Suit Riot” will be performing holiday tunes with lots of swing. More information on the show can be found here.
Pinkies Up! Visit the St. Regis for Holiday Afternoon Tea
The St. Regis is getting into the holiday spirit with its afternoon tea. This year, the teas are inspired by the world of the timeless ballet, The Nutcracker. Expect tea sandwiches, scones and decadent sweets like apricot spritz cookies and dark chocolate hazelnut profiteroles. More information on the tea can be found here.
Starting Saturday: IN Series Presents “Rigoletto”
Voted as the audience pick for IN Series 2019-2020 season, the circus version of the Verdi opera includes a new text by Bari Biern. It was never able to be performed due to COVID, and decades before that, it was the victim of censors circa the 19th century. The show is finally able to be seen in all its glory at the Goldman Theater at the EDCJCC. More information on tickets can be found here.
Good Thing Plaid is in Season—It’s Scottish Christmas Walk Weekend
Celebrate Alexandria’s Scottish heritage and the magic of the holiday with the annual “Taste of Scotland” event. The non-profit Campagna Center will be hosting the event tomorrow evening, which will include a Scotch and bourbon tasting, holiday food, an interactive whisky education discussion from MacMillan Spirit House and more. Four Seasons Teddy Bear Tea is Saturday
Saturday marks the beginning of four “Teddy Bear Teas” at The Four Seasons Washington, D.C. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit Children’s National Hospital. As a special addition this year, Mattel is teaming up with the Founders Auxiliary Board to sponsor a “Dream Makers: Share the Joy” program. Every child who goes to a Teddy Bear Tea will get a special gift with a matching donation to a patient currently in a hospital. A donation from Mattel Favorites Toy Collection will be given too. One Teddy Bear Tea guest will be chosen at random to enjoy the holiday surprise. More information can be found here.
Brrr..The Folger Frost Fair is in Session
Now through January 5, the Folger Shakespeare Library is hosting its first annual Folger Frost Fair. Lights, ornaments and other festive accoutrements will decorate the building and staff will be on hand to talk about Folger’s history and architecture. There will also be activities for both kids and adults throughout the month, as well as traditions like Folger Consort’s holiday concert and the Emily Dickinson Birthday Tribute Reading. Get into the Spirit with Holiday Pops with Jessica Vosk
D.C.’s holiday concert returns with special guest Broadway’s Jessica Vosk, as well as the Heritage Signature Chorale. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will be narrating “’Twas the Night Before Christmas” too. There are shows Friday evening, a Saturday matinee and Saturday evening show.
