Last week, I had the pleasure of attending a stunning rooftop event at Arlo Hotel DC, celebrating Women’s History Month and the arrival of cherry blossom season in the capital. The evening, aptly titled “Tokyo to Tidal Basin”, was an immersive mix of curated art, music and cocktails, all coming together under one golden sunset.
As the sun dipped low and Washington, D.C. was bathed in golden hour glow, the rooftop transformed into a cozy urban haven. With perfect spring weather, thoughtful details and a warm, welcoming crowd, it felt like the city itself paused to soak in the moment.
The cocktails were absolute standouts. Each one was crafted with so much care, creativity and intention, paying homage to the connection between Japan and D.C. They weren’t just drinks, they were stories in a glass.

DJ Franky J provided great tunes throughout the evening. Charlotte Meyer-Schönherr.
Live tunes by DJ Franky J floated through the air, setting a mellow, soulful vibe, while guests wandered between bar and canvas. The art on display was by Claire and Siri, a French-Norwegian duo who paint together “with four hands.” Their works, inspired by nature’s contrasts and the search for balance, were deeply moving and incredibly fitting for the cherry blossom spring energy blooming all over D.C.
One of the highlights was the artist talk, where Claire and Siri shared insights into their collaborative process and the symbolism in their work. Even more special: the artists themselves were present and open for questions, conversation and connection throughout the night.
The event was part of Arlo’s Living Room Gallery, curated by Jasmine Arakel in partnership with the Nicolas Auvray Gallery, which brings museum-quality art into welcoming, everyday spaces. With previous works from artists like Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst and Tyler Shields showcased across other Arlo properties, this initiative is all about accessibility, discovery, and inspiration.
All in all, it was a beautiful, relaxed evening filled with amazing people, incredible cocktails, inspiring art and a rooftop view that reminded everyone why springtime in D.C. is something truly magical.
