A Shimmering, Sunny Saturday for 95th Garden Tour

By Lee Child

On a shimmering sunny Saturday in May, more than 1,000 garden-goers graced the sidewalks of Georgetown, east side, west side, from S St. to O for the 95th annual Georgetown Garden Tour.

Sponsored by the Georgetown Garden Club, the garden tour invited guests to observe pools, terrace walkways, a pensive garden shed turned writing nook — expansive and intimate, tastes for all to enjoy.

A highlight this year was the newly planted front garden at the Georgetown Public Library, a gift to the community from the Garden Club in celebrations of its centennial year. Once again, barren beds are now filled with natives Clethra, Itea, St. John’s Wort among them. Yellow woods and magnolias grace the lawn along along with 55 perennials, welcoming book lovers along with birds and butterflies — all made possible because of the garden tour and those who joined in this day of celebration.

Thank you, garden lovers, for making Georgetown shine this Saturday, May 10.
