We’re back for another weekend of summer fun in the District. Enjoy Alley Fest at Blagden Alley, Strathmore’s Live from the Lawn series, Sesame Street the Musical at the Kennedy Center and more.

Friday at The Reach: Moulin Rouge!
The Kennedy Center’s REACH Campus is showing outdoor movies all summer long. The exceptionally fun lineup continues with 2001’s Moulin Rouge. The movie, starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, starts at sundown or around 8:30 p.m. More information can be found here.

Strathmore’s ‘Live from the Lawn’ Continues with Cool Concerts for Kids

This evening, check out Lucy Kalantari & The Jazz Cats, a Grammy Award-winning band who will be performing at 7 p.m. on the Strathmore lawn. The band is best known for their engaging performances and interactive scat singing. More information can be found here.

Sightlines Saturday Programming Continues with “Chinatown Show and Tell”
Learn about the history and legacies of Chinatowns up and down the East Coast at this Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center “Sightlines Saturday” program. There will be speakers from Philadelphia, New York, Boston and D.C. sharing a personal object and story reflecting their connection to Chinatown. Pixies Are At The Anthem

Alt-rock British group Pixies will be performing at The Anthem on Friday. Their platinum album “Doolittle” brought the band into the UK Top Ten and 20 years after their appearance at Coachella, they’re on tour performing all their hits and a new album called “The Night the Zombies Came.” More information on how to get tickets to the show can be found here.

Check Out Alley Fest This Saturday
Saturday afternoon from noon to 5 p.m., visit Blagden Alley and Naylor Court for the second annual “Alley Fest.” There will be live music and gospel praise from area churches, interactive murals and chalk art zones, dog adoptions and wellness pop-ups, pickleball tournaments, the D.C. Library Go-Go Truck Experience and more. More information can be found here.

The National Gallery of Art’s exhibit featuring artist Chakaia Booker has been extended through August 2, 2026! Don’t miss the exhibit, which includes three sculptures by Booker, who has spent four decades cut, coiling and contorting tires. Booker has used tire scraps as commentary on cultural histories and experiences. He also tries to use them as a sustainable practice. More information can be found here.

Check Out “Sailing: Yacht Rock” at Signature Theatre

Nothing says summer more than some yacht rock! Enjoy one of Signature Theatre’s cabarets, with this one featuring yacht rock melodies like “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl)” and “Escape (The Pina Colada Song)” and music from bands like the Doobie Brothers, Christopher Cross and TOTO. Sesame Street The Musical Delights at The Kennedy Center
