As we prepare to say goodbye to summer and usher in fall, the weekend brings lots of entertainment. See an outdoor movie at the Reach, welcome The Georgetown Preschool to town and of course, don’t forget Summer Restaurant Week. Enjoy your weekend!
‘All That Jazz’ at The Reach

The Kennedy Center’s REACH campus will be hosting the second to last movie in its summer outdoor movie series on Friday. This week is Chicago, the 23-year-old movie adaptation of the classic 1975 musical starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, Renee Zellweger and Richard Gere. Films start at sundown or around 8:30 p.m. You can find more about the movie screening here.
Don’t Miss ‘Hold the Light’

Beginning today, “Hold the Light,” a Light Remedies photo art exhibit to celebrate Ukrainian Independence Day, will be on view at Gallery 16TEN in Georgetown. The exhibit runs August 21 through September 6 with special events that you can find in a story we did here.
Opera in the Outfield to Kick Off WNO 70th Anniversary Season
The Washington National Opera is kicking off its 70th anniversary season with its popular Opera in the Outfield event this Saturday at Nationals Park. The free community event begins with a screening of “Porgy and Bess” at 6:30 p.m. with pre-show family fun starting at 4:30 p.m. with arts and crafts, an instrument petting zoo and meeting the M&Ms (since the event is presented by Mars). Do Some Yoga at Arlo Washington DC

Tara Aura, ritual artist and sound healer, will be hosting R&B Yoga in Studios A&B at Arlo Washington DC. The class will be set to an R&B soundtrack from the African diaspora, combining breathwork, meditation and mindful movement. The class is all levels and stick around after for some post-practice sips to keep students cool. Mats will be provided and tickets start at $34. More information can be found here.
Welcome The Georgetown Preschool to Town on Saturday

On Saturday, August 23, head to The Georgetown Preschool’s Back-to-School Open House, beginning at 12 noon at 1230 31st St. NW. The grand opening of the school, which will serve children ages six weeks to five years, will be enrolling students on the spot. Kids will be entertained too—a moon bounce, DJ, face painting and treats will be available for some extra fun. More information can be found here.
See a Screening of ‘Match in a Haystack’ at Miracle Theater

A screening of the documentary “Match in a Haystack,” followed by a panel discussion, will be at Miracle Theater Sunday at 7 p.m. The screening will be followed by a half-hour panel discussion about the fight for Ukrainian culture and Russia’s attempts to rid Ukraine of its unique identity. Arena Stage’s Community Day is Saturday

Last year, Arena Stage opened its doors for a Community Day. This year, they’re taking it a step further and taking over 6th St. SW for a free outdoor block party and indoor open house. There will be live music and dancing, food trucks, games, art activities and more for all ages. More information can be found here.

Debuting at the Renwick Gallery: ‘State Fairs: Growing American Craft’

Beginning tomorrow and running through September 2026, the Renwick Gallery is debuting a unique exhibit that is the first of its kind to survey American state fairs’ remarkable and unusual crafts from the 19th century to today. The exhibit includes personal stories, regional and cultural traditions and craft examples. More information can be found here.
James Taylor Plays at Wolf Trap This Weekend

The great James Taylor will be playing the Filene Center at Wolf Trap tonight, Saturday and Sunday. His self-titled album was released nearly 60 years ago and since then, Taylor has established himself as a singer-songwriter powerhouse. He is back for a weekend at Wolf Trap playing his hits like “Fire and Rain” and “How Sweet It is.” Opening the show is folk group Tiny Habits. More information can be found here.
