Studio Theatre’s Muse to Step Down

After nearly 20 years in the role, Studio Theatre Artistic Director David Muse will leave the position in late 2027. The search for his successor has begun. Muse, who succeeded Studio Theatre founder Joy Zinoman in 2010, was previously associate artistic director of Shakespeare Theatre Company. He has managed more than 125 productions at Studio, directing over two dozen plays himself. 
 

Mount Vernon’s Erby Moves Up

Adam T. Erby, who joined Mount Vernon in 2012 as an assistant curator, has been named executive director of historic preservation and collections. Earlier, he served as the Martha Washington Chief Curator and director of fine and decorative arts collections. Erby has led restoration projects and curated the new permanent exhibition “Lives Bound Together, Slavery at Mount Vernon,” among others. 
 

New HQ for Shakespeare Theatre

Upon completing renovations next year, Shakespeare Theatre Company will move its headquarters to 718 7th St. NW in the Gallery Place/Chinatown area. The new location, across the street from Capital One Arena’s west entrance, will bring staff together under one roof in closer proximity to STC’s two performance venues: Sidney Harman Hall and the Michael R. Klein Theatre. 

 

Strathmore Hires Ex-Artist in Residence

Strathmore has appointed Rochelle Rice as the new director of its artist in residence and artistic advancement fellowship programs. Rice, an alumna of the 2015 Artists in Residence class, was chosen after a nationwide search based on her experience as an administrator, artist, educator, programmer and producer.  
 

Kilpatrick, Keough Join Folger Library

The Folger Shakespeare Library, which will celebrate its centennial in 2032, has named David Kilpatrick its new director of learning and education programs and Tamara Turoff Keough its new chief development officer. Kilpatrick was formerly senior director of education programs and productions at the Kennedy Center. Keough most recently served as Ford’s Theatre Society’s director of development. 

 

NSO Welcomes 5 New Musicians for 2025-26

The National Symphony Orchestra has added five new musicians to its roster for the 2025-26 season. The musicians are: second assistant concertmaster Xiaoxuan Shi, assistant principal viola Dana Kelley, assistant principal cello Raymond Tsai, cello Noah Krauss and second trumpet Michail Thompson.
 

Burgess Dance Residency at Kreeger Museum

Formalizing a yearslong partnership, the Kreeger Museum announced a new two-year residency for the Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company. Between 2015 and 2025, Burgess choreographed three pieces inspired by the works of artists Pablo Picasso, Helen Frankenthaler and Joan Miró, all of whom are represented in the Kreeger’s permanent collection.  

 

Tudor Place Wins State and Local History Award

Tudor Place Historic House & Garden has won an American Association for State and Local History Award of Excellence for the installation and guided tour “Ancestral Spaces: People of African Descent at Tudor Place.” Earlier this year, the Georgetown museum received the National Council on Public History’s Outstanding Public History Project Award for the innovative initiative.
