On Thursday, Dec. 18, The Georgetowner’s Cultural Leadership Breakfast Series will present a talk by Helen Chason, director of the Kreeger Museum. Admission to the event, at 1310 Kitchen & Bar, 1310 Wisconsin Ave. NW, is $40, payable in advance at georgetowner.com or via Eventbrite.
A modernist landmark designed in 1963 by architects Philip Johnson and Richard Foster, the Kreeger Museum opened in 1994 in the former Foxhall Road home of philanthropists David and Carmen Kreeger. Their stunning collection of 19th– and 20th-century European and American paintings — along with sculpture displayed on the grounds and examples of African and Asian art — forms the core of the museum’s holdings.
Helen Chason has been the Kreeger Museum’s director since 2017, following four years as head of public relations and membership. She holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree in administration, planning and social policy from Harvard.
At the Dec. 18 breakfast, she will talk about programming initiatives that celebrate the community’s wealth of talent, including the Collaborative, an exhibition program supporting Washington-based visual and performing artists; the Jazz at the Kreeger series, now in its fifth year; and a new two-year residency for the Dana Tai Soon Burgess Dance Company.
Doors open at 1310 Kitchen & Bar at 8:30 a.m. for a light buffet breakfast; the program, including a Q&A, will follow from 9 to 10 a.m. To purchase tickets, click HERE.
Since 2014, The Georgetowner’s Cultural Leadership Breakfast Series has presented 66 insider talks by leaders of area museums; opera, theater and dance companies; music ensembles; performing arts venues; and other cultural organizations.
