It’s that time of year again! Geoffrey Johnson returns for his solo exhibition on Friday, May 17th!
We will be exhibiting twenty new paintings by Johnson, with many of them being scenes/memories from his trip to Europe last year with his sons. The paintings aren’t simply exact representations of specific locations, they are more about a feeling, an idea of a place.
Excerpt from Johnson’s Editorial “City Memories” in the May Issue of American Art Collector:
“It’s more just liking that space [and painting] what it felt like, what it looked like and what I remember of it. I don’t work from photographs; it’s more of my memory of the place.” Johnson’s works are impressionistic in nature – recognizable but with minimal details. Some are of real places, while others are amalgamations of multiple locales. “For me, it’s the idea of how little detail I can put down and still keep intact the universal language,” he says, adding, “I want the viewer to recognize that’s a bridge, maybe a building , that there are some recognizable things.”
Please join us for the free Opening Reception on Friday, May 17th from 6:30-9pm. Geoffrey Johnson will be in attendance. The show will be on view until Wednesday, June 5th.
