November 10 -12, Moveius Contemporary Ballet presents Tipping Point, a three-part meditation through dance on living in times of instability. Moveius’ Glacier: A Climate Change Ballet will take to the stage once more after it became the first ballet ever presented as part of an international climate conference in 2018. Created by Dance Loft/Moveius Artistic Director & Climate Policy Expert Diana Movius, this piece imagines the dancers as melting polar ice caps. Read more about the piece in The Washington Post here.
Associate Director, Alvaro Palau, and company member, Elizabeth Watson, present two news works focused on power dynamics. Watson’s Shortfall explores the effect of diminishing resources on a close-knit group, the drama heightened by percussive movements and the driving music of Maurice Ravel’s Bolero. Palau’s Birds of a Feather explores both exile and belonging, loosely inspired by a flock of birds. With this compelling program, Moveius Contemporary Ballet presents an exciting evening of dance relevant to our current times.
