Symposium: Transforming Teaching and Learning about American Indians

November 1, 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 5:30 pm UTC+0

Free

Experts speakers Maria Elena Campisteguy (Metropolitan Group), Stephanie Fryberg (University of Washington), Kevin Gover (museum’s director), Edwin Schupman (manager of the museum’s Native Knowledge 360° program), and Sarah Shear (Penn State Altoona) will discuss the need to transform education about Native Americans in order to inspire a more comprehensive vision of American history and a greater understanding of Native and non-Native Americans’ shared experiences. Panelists will present the museum’s national education initiative, Native Knowledge 360 Degrees. The museum and its partners among Native nations and in the education community are producing exciting new classroom resources and teacher training that feature more complete narratives and build a more empathetic and informed public. More details about the program are here. Live webcast: AmericanIndian.si.edu/multimedia/webcasts
