Pancakes & Booze Art Show
On Thursday, Sept. 5, from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., this underground pop-up art show — introducing some of the nation’s top emerging artists and serving all-you-can-eat pancakes — will return to D.C. at the Howard Theatre, 620 T St. NW. ‘Extreme Lengths’ at Dance Place
Dance Place, 3225 8th St. NE, will present a series of technology-driven, movement-based performances produced by Ben Levine. Under Levine’s direction, a team of designers and movement artists will collaborate to assemble a unique experience in which audience members get up close and personal with dancers and designers. Performances are: Friday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 7, at 2 and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 8, at 2 and 7 p.m. Admission, including one drink ticket, is $35 ($25 for artists). Opening Reception: ‘Newly Connected’
On Friday, Sept. 6, at 6 p.m., the Korean Cultural Center DC, 2370 Massachusetts Ave. NW, will hold a free opening reception for “Newly Connected,” a group exhibition that illuminates the experience of immigrants acclimating in America through videos, installations and paintings by Korean American artists Namwon Choi, Kyoung eun Kang and Kieun Kim. The Young Dubliners at Hamilton Live
One of Celtic rock’s hardest working bands, the Young Dubliners will perform at the Hamilton Live, 600 14th St. NW, on Friday, Sept. 6, at 8 p.m. In recent years, the group has appeared twice on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Also on the program is Dublin 5, offering “an eclectic mix of traditional roots and blazing instrumentals with an amped up rock twist.” Tickets are $29.75 and $19.75 (bar area/standing). The Chuck Brown Band at the Reach
As part of the Reach Opening Festival at the Kennedy Center, the Chuck Brown Band will perform a special tribute to Brown — the man who created go-go, the sound of D.C. — on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 6 p.m. Special guest Bootsy Collins will join the band to funk things up on the Reach Plaza Stage. Gelato Festival America
The D.C. edition of Gelato Festival America will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7, and Sunday, Sept. 8, at City Market at O, 800 P St. NW. The festival opens on Saturday at 11 a.m. and the day’s activities conclude with an eating contest at 5:30 p.m. On Sunday, the programming starts at noon and ends with an awards ceremony at 7:30 p.m. A wristband gives attendees access to all-you-can-eat gelato in the competing flavors and to festival activities. The chef with the most votes will continue his or her gelato journey at the Gelato Festival World Masters 2021. Tickets are $25, $20 for seniors and veterans and $10 for age 12 and under. DC State Fair
The 10th annual DC State Fair, showcasing the District’s agricultural, culinary and creative talents, will be held on Sunday, Sept. 8, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Gateway DC, 2700 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SE on the St. Elizabeths East Campus.
