Relax with some jazz and R&B Thursday evening at MGM National Harbor outside on the Potomac Plaza. It’s bring-your-own picnic blanket and chair, but tents and coolers are not permitted. Parking at MGM National Harbor is free! Masks are encouraged while not actively eating or drinking. This Thursday, the WildFlowers group is featured. More information on the event can be found here.
Visit Wolf Trap for an Outdoor Show
Tony Award-nominated Norm Lewis will be singing at Wolf Trap this weekend and he’ll be accompanied by the National Symphony Orchestra. Best known for the NBC TV special Jesus Christ Superstar, which featured John Legend, Lewis also starred in the Kennedy Center’s production of the Music Man and Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. He’ll be performing Friday and Saturday night. More information on tickets here.
Take in a New Exhibit at the Smithsonian American Art Museum
A grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, three female photographers are showcasing their snapshots from East Baltimore from the years 1975-1980. The three women, Elinor Cahn, Joan Clark Netherwood and Linda Rich, captured lunches, homes, celebrations and the everyday conflicts the neighborhood faced in those times. More information on the exhibit can be found here.
The Citi Open is Back!
The Citi Open tennis tournament is back! Beginning Saturday through August 8, see stars like 20-time men’s Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal and more. Market Square, a gourmet food hall, is returning this year with food options from D.C. favorites like Duke’s Grocery, Root & Sprig, Fuku and more. Platinum seats will run close to $3,000 and second tier reserved seats will set you back $495. More information on how to check out the tournament can be found here.
Don’t Miss the Free Week of Admissions at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (Before Renovations)
The National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) is closing briefly for a renovation on August 8. Before then, the museum will offer a free week of admissions beginning this Sunday August 1. Check out the noteworthy exhibit “Girlhood” by Mary Ellen Mark, featuring around 30 images of girls and young women. According to the NMWA, Mark is a “modern iconic photographer” who “created compassionate and candid portraits of subjects living outside of mainstream society.” She donated over 160 photographs to the museum, given by members of the Photography Buyers Syndicate.
