Wednesday, Nov. 23

Enjoy ICE! at Gaylord National Resort

After a two-year hiatus, Gaylord National Resort brought back their popular ICE! attraction. This year’s theme is “A Christmas Story,” based on the classic holiday movie. Tickets are available until 8:45 p.m. daily now through December 31. Expect to see over two million pounds of ice carved into classic scenes from the movie, like Aunt Clara’s pink nightmare and of course the ultimate “triple dog dare” at the school flagpole — don’t forget to keep your tongues inside your mouth at all times! Experience The “Haute Holidays” at Hillwood

Opened just yesterday, “Haute Holidays” at Hillwood draws from the exhibit “Grace of Monaco: Princess of Dior.” Enjoy Christmas trees and holiday décor throughout Hillwood Estate. The estate’s gardens are showing off the season too, with blue atlas cedar, false cypress, holly and witch hazel galore. Pine trees next to the mansion are lighted up to the entrance. Don’t miss wreath workshops, shopping at the museum gift shop and having tea or a bite at the Merriweather Café. More information can be found here.

Thanksgiving Dinner at the Ritz Carlton

Enjoy “Season’s Greenings” from The U.S. Botanic Garden

Beginning today, the U.S. Botanic Garden will open its “Season’s Greenings” holiday display. Train lovers will be excited for the sprawling G-gauge model setups running from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily in the gated outdoor gardens. The conservatory will also be bursting with poinsettias, D.C. landmarks made from plants and other holiday décor. More on the exhibit can be found here.

Jump into a life-sized holiday-themed Candyland of sorts with “Spectacular Factory” at ARTECHOUSE. You can “float” with giant swinging bells, join a celebration of a thousand nutcrackers, take a train ride through wreaths and try out the candy cane carousel. Laugh with Comedian Gianmarco Sorsei 

Comedian Gianmarco Sorsei is in town this weekend.

The Comedy Loft is hosting comedian Gianmarco Sorsei this weekend with shows today and tomorrow. Sorsei has told jokes as a New York City-based comedian and actor on Netflix’s “Bonding,” Amazon’s “Comics Watching Comics” (of which he was a season eight winner) and more. He also has spent time as an actor opposite Jennifer Lopez in Hustlers, appearing in Blue Bloods on CBS and in an upcoming movie called “Here Today” with Billy Crystal and Tiffany Haddish. CityCenterDC’s Ninth Annual Holiday Tree Lighting

Kick off the festive season at CityCenterDC with their ninth annual Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration. The fun starts at 6 p.m. in The Park at CityCenter. The 75-foot tree is decorated with over 150,000 lights and 4,500 ornaments. The evening will be emceed by NBC-4’s Eun Yang. Expect lots of fun activities for the whole family, including face painting, balloon art and lots of sweet and savory treats. More information on the tree lighting can be found here.

See Mount Vernon by Candlelight

Experience the holidays with George and Martha Washington. The 45-minute tour is by candlelight and includes stops at all the estate’s themed Christmas trees and of course, plenty of time to shop for holiday gifts. Mrs. Washington and fellow 18th-century Mount Vernon residents will be on hand to welcome guests. Note: if you miss this weekend, don’t fret. The tours are offered throughout December. Kick Off the Holiday Season with GLOW 

Georgetown GLOW has returned to the Georgetown commercial district.

Get your Insta ready! Launched yesterday, the holiday celebration featuring outdoor public light art installations returns for another winter season. The art will be lit nightly from 5-10 p.m. and will be located throughout the Georgetown commercial district. More information can be found here.
