•We’ve got another weekend of holiday fun in store! The Gay Men’s Chorus debuts their holiday show (as does Synetic Theater!) City Ridge and The Wharf celebrate the holiday season with a tree lighting and boat parade and book lovers will be quite happy with two separate events for bibliophiles.
Synetic Theater Opens “Snow Maiden” This Weekend
Synetic Theater celebrates the opening weekend of an original holiday production “Snow Maiden.” The show tells the story of a boy searching for joy who builds a friend from the snow and his creation comes to life. “Snow Maiden” is family-friendly and just 45-minutes long, so it’s perfect for squirmy little ones. Ticket holders are encouraged to come early for holiday music and winter-themed arts and crafts. More information can be found here.
Celebrate The Holidays with The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C.
The annual holiday extravaganza returns with sparkly costumes, tap dancers and more at the Lincoln Theatre. Opening performance is Saturday at 3 p.m. (with ASL) and 8 p.m. Don’t fret — if you miss Saturday, there are performances December 9 and 11 as well. Get ready to hear all your holiday favorites like “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Sleigh Ride,” and more. Tickets can be found here.
DC Cocktail Week Ends This Weekend
This week to celebrate local cocktail culture and restaurants ends on Sunday. Food and drink pairings are offered at area restaurants and bars like Bar Charley, District Winery, The Henri, Oyamel, Sfoglina, Yardbird and more. Ring in the Holiday at City Ridge
City Ridge is hosting a tree lighting on Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. Throughout the evening, there are lots of family-friendly activities including face painting, train rides, pictures with Santa, crafts, roaming performances and more. More on City Ridge’s holiday festivities can be found here.
Book Lovers Will Be Happy…
The White House Historical Association is hosting a Holiday Book Festival on Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at The White House History Shop (1610 H St. NW). Artist and illustrator Dr. John Hutton will be giving drawing lessons and showing how to draw presidents. With every book purchase, guests can get a chance to win an original Hutton drawing in a raffle. More on this event can be found here.
…There are Multiple Book-Related Events This Weekend
Saturday and Sunday, there will be a large used book sale this weekend at The Georgetown Neighborhood Library on R St. NW. Saturday’s hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m., general admission; Sunday is 1-3 p.m., with all items half price. If you’re interested in purchasing some books, they’re cash or check only and bring your own bag. Handheld scanners are permitted. Spend Sunday at Jackson Art Center Open Studios
Browse, buy and meet the artists at the Jackson Art Center in Jackson School Sunday afternoon. Evan Samuels jazz duo guitar and upright bass will provide entertainment. Relax with NPR’s “A Jazz Piano Christmas” at The Kennedy Center
Holiday classics are performed by Japanese musical artist Hiromi, Mountain Stage’s Bob Thompson, and Bolivian prodigy José André Montaño (who was chosen as one of The Kennedy Center’s “Next 50” leaders. The District Holiday Boat Parade Celebrates 30 Years
The District’s Holiday Boat Parade celebrates three decades with over 60 decorated boats in parade formation along the Washington Channel. The event runs from 6-9 p.m. with festive activities all evening, including: s’mores, ornament decorating, live music, visits with Santa and even a fireworks salute.
