GALA’s Rebecca Medrano to Speak at George Town Club Nov. 10

The November speaker in Georgetown Media Group’s Cultural Leadership Breakfast Series will be Rebecca Read Medrano, executive director and cofounder with her husband Hugo of GALA Hispanic Theatre, a national center for Latino performing arts based since 2005 in the landmark Tivoli Theatre in Columbia Heights. The event will take place Thursday, Nov. 10, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the George Town Club, 1530 Wisconsin Ave. NW.

Presenting classical and contemporary plays in Spanish and English — including Federico García Lorca’s “Yerma,” which won six Helen Hayes Awards this year — GALA’s name stands for Grupo de Artístas LatinoAmericanos.

Admission to the breakfast, sponsored by Bonhams, is $25 ($20 for George Town Club members). Attendees are invited to bring jewelry for complimentary appraisal by a Bonhams specialist. To RSVP, email richard@georgetowner.com by Nov. 7
