GU Commencement Speakers Announced


Georgetown University announced the names of the eight prominent individuals who will speak at the commencement ceremonies for its undergraduate and professional schools. They are as follows, with the school and commencement date and time indicated.

Ernest J. Moniz, former U.S. Secretary of Energy; co-chair and CEO, Nuclear Threat Initiative. McCourt School of Public Policy (May 17, 5:30 p.m.).

William D. Phillips, physicist, National Institute of Standards and Technology. Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (May 18, 9 a.m.).

Brendan Tuohey, co-founder and executive director, PeacePlayers. School of Continuing Studies (May 18, noon).

Ursula Burns, executive chairman of the supervisory board, VEON. McDonough School of Business (May 18, 3 p.m.).

Susan Hockfield, president emerita and professor of neuroscience, MIT. Georgetown College (May 19, 9 a.m.).

Luci Baines Johnson, founder, LBJ Family Wealth Advisors; daughter of former President Lyndon Johnson and first lady Lady Bird Johnson. School of Nursing & Health Studies (May 19, 2 p.m.).

António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations. School of Foreign Service (May 19, 5 p.m.).

Thomas J. Nasca, M.D., president and CEO for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and ACGME International. School of Medicine (May 20, 11 a.m.).

Eleanor Holmes Norton, Congresswoman (D-D.C.). Georgetown Law (May 20, 2 p.m.).

All the ceremonies — which will take place on GU’s Healy Lawn, 3700 O St. NW (with the exception of the School of Medicine’s ceremony, to be held in DAR Constitution Hall, 1776 D St. NW) — will be streamed live on Georgetown University’s Facebook page.
