Weekend Round Up: 9/2 – 9/5

Happy Labor Day weekend! Enjoy the beautiful weather and the last waning days of summer with fun activities for the whole family. There’s a scavenger hunt at the Smithsonian, Sunset Cinemas at the Wharf, the newly reopened National Children’s Museum and of course DC JazzFest! Have a safe and wonderful long weekend and be sure to thank our essential workers!

Enjoy the Last Sunset Cinema at the Wharf

If you’re missing office life (or glad to be working from home), the last Sunset Cinema at the Wharf features tonight at 8 p.m. “Office Space” –  a 90s cult comedy lampooning office life and directed by Mike Judge — will be showing on Transit Pier’s 20-foot LED screen. You can bring in food from restaurants at the Wharf but food and drink purchases must be from Cantina Bambina. More information on the pop-up can be found here.

Scavenger Hunt at the Smithsonian

This Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., enjoy a team scavenger hunt around the Smithsonian museums on the National Mall. Meet at the Reagan Building for the hunt to start at 12 noon sharp. Look for items, answer trivia questions, take photos and more. The winning team gets free admission to an upcoming Embassy Gala. More information on the event can be found here.

Check Out the Newly Reopened National Children’s Museum

Bring the kids down to the National Children’s Museum. Now that it’s reopened (and in a central location on Pennsylvania Ave. NW) it’s a great time to take the family to enjoy the exhibits. Kids can enjoy a virtual Washington Nationals batting cage or a basketball hoop. Covid policies will be in effect. More information on the museum can be found here.

Take in DC JazzFest

This weekend is DC JazzFest, running through Sunday at the Wharf. Over 20 concerts, interviews and events with in-person and livestream performances will be showcased. This Saturday includes performances by the Marie Schneider Orchestra. On Sunday, The Spanish Harlem Orchestra will be playing (among many other artists!) Get general admission tickets for free or seated and VIP tickets for a fee. Act soon though, as they are selling out fast! More information on the festival can be found here.

Do Yoga at the Wharf

This Sunday morning, bring your mat to Recreation Pier for an outdoor yoga class taught by District Flow Yoga. With the gorgeous weekend coming, it’s a great time to get out and enjoy the outdoors and get your namaste on! Each class costs $10 and tickets must be purchased through Eventbrite. More information can be found here.

See the D.C. Festival of Magic

If you’re into magic, you’ll want to visit the D.C. Festival of Magic, Friday through Sunday at the Capital Hilton. See magicians Brian Curry and Rich Bloch and take the whole family Sunday for the “Mister Barry Family Show.” Access to all six magicians this weekend will cost just $150. More information on the festival can be found here.

The Nationals vs. the Mets at Home This Weekend

The Nats play the New York Mets at Nats Park this weekend from September 3 – 6. The five-game series includes a bobblehead night Friday, featuring Ryan Zimmerman, a doubleheader Saturday with fireworks at 6 p.m. (kids run the bases that day too) and a Screech travel pillow giveaway.
