Weekend Round Up, Feb. 10-14

Valentine’s Day is just a few days away. If you’ve got nothing planned yet, here are some delightful things to do this weekend in honor of Monday’s unofficial holiday. From concerts to the ballet to comedy shows and more, there’s something for everyone.

For the Perfect Date Night: The Washington Ballet’s “Swan Lake” at the Kennedy Center

The Washington Ballet debuts Swan Lake today (through February 13 only!) at the Kennedy Center’s Eisenhower Theater. The ultimate tragic romantic tale set to Tchiakovsky’s brilliant score serves as the Washington Ballet’s inspirational take of the iconic ballet. Get swept up in the ideal date-night with the love story of Princess Odette and Prince Sigfried — a narrative of magic, sadness, romance and suspense. You only have five days to take your date to this impeccably put together ballet.

For the Epitome of Luxury: The Ultimate Private Shopping Experience at Tysons Ritz Carlton

Splurge on your significant other (or yourself—hey, you’re worth it!) with an over-the-top private shopping experience package at the Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner. Saks Fifth Avenue Tysons is planning to bring guests to their “Saks Fifth Avenue Suite Styling Package.” For a mere $12,500 per night, the luxury shopping experience will give guests overnight accommodations in the Ritz-Carlton Suite, valet parking, champagne upon arrival, two spa treatments, daily breakfast and dinner for two in-suite and a curated selection of clothes and accessories available for in-room purchase. Those who book the experience will get a $5,000 gift card to Saks to purchase said items. The experience is bookable through the end of the month.

If You’re Celebrating Galentine’s Day: ‘Awkward Sex… and the City’ at the Black Cat

Take the ladies to a hysterical night of watching New York City’s funniest storytellers and comedians relive their most awkward sexual experiences. One-night stands, embarrassing bathroom issues flaring up and more are only a smidgeon of what to expect. The event will be Friday February 11 at the Black Cat. Tickets are affordable too—just $20! Of course, expect to show proof of vaccination with ID at the door.

If You’re in a New Relationship: Sweet n’ Sour Valentine’s Day Comedy Show at Busboys & Poets

We get it—if you’ve just started dating someone, Valentine’s Day can sometimes be a little bit awkward. Busboys & Poets’ Takoma location at Carroll St. NW is hosting a comedy show that brings funny people Melissa Douty, Mike Brown, Maddox Pennington and Anthony Oakes hitting the stage to celebrate love and roast the holiday that brings us everything red and pink. Grab some small plates like Busboys & Poets’ vegan nachos, a cocktail from the bar and settle in for a low-key date with your new LUV or CRUSH.

Bond with the Family: Check Out the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s “Orchids: Hidden Stories of Groundbreaking Women”

If you want to spend Valentine’s Day with the family, the Smithsonian American Art Museum is hosting a floral haven of sorts through April. The exhibit allows its guests to escape the biting winter cold and step into the Kogod Courtyard’s “Orchids: Hidden Stories of Groundbreaking Women,” highlighting horticultural heroines. If exotic flowers are part of your love language, the whole family will adore the several hundred varieties of orchids on display alongside stories of women’s history. Expect to see tales of women who’ve made incredible achievements in art, orchid cultivation, scientific discovery and more. What’s not to love?

If You’re in a Decades-Long Relationship: Candlelight Valentine’s Day Special—Broadway’s Greatest Love Songs at the National City Christian Church

Longtime lovebirds will love a special Valentine’s Day outing to the National City Christian Church for a candlelit concert. A pianist will be performing Broadway love songs with vocalists on select pieces. The concert will be at 6:30 and 9 p.m. this Friday February 11 and is set to last just one hour, making it perfect for a before or after dinner show.
