Weekend Roundup, Dec. 22 – 25


We made it! We’re officially into Christmas weekend. If you’re in town or perhaps have family coming to visit, here are just a few festive options. We at The Georgetowner wish you the happiest of holidays and hope you have a jolly and wonderful time!

See “A Family Christmas” at The Kennedy Center” 

Christmas Eve at 11 a.m., head to The Kennedy Center for a special program for the young and young at heart. The Choral Arts Society, conducted by Dr. Jace Kaholokula Saplan and Brandon Straub, along with the Choral Arts Symphonic Chorus and Choral Arts Brass Ensemble, will be performing classic holiday hits for the kids and all of us, kids at heart! Santa, Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer are rumored to all be making appearances too. More information on the show can be found here.

Have a “Cool Yule” at the Fairmont 

The Fairmont at 2401 M St. NW has transformed its Georgetown Courtyard Bar into “The Cool Yule Bar.” Stop by this weekend to warm up with a cocktail while being surrounded by thousands of twinkling lights. There will also be fire pits and heaters, as well as blankets to stay nice and toasty warm. More information can be found here.

Ice Skate at Washington Harbour 

It’s going to be freezing this weekend. Why not make the most of it? Head to Washington Harbour to ice skate near The Georgetown Waterfront. The rink’s special holiday hours are the 24th from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and the 25th from 1-10:30 p.m. Skate sessions are 90 minutes with 30 minutes in between each session. Check out Georgetown Glow 

If you haven’t paid a visit yet, Christmas weekend is a great time to do so! Georgetown Glow is an outdoor immersive light experience in its eighth iteration. Must-see illuminated exhibits to check out include “Light Falls” at 2918 M St. NW and the Insta-worthy “Cloud Swing” at 3276 M St. NW. More information on Glow can be found here. Take in an Organ Recital at The National Cathedral 

The National Cathedral is hosting an organ recital Christmas Day at 1:30 p.m. Organists Thomas Sheehan and Rebecca Ehren will be performing festive music on the Cathedral’s Great Organ. The recital will also be webcast live in case you’re unable to make it in person. More information can be found here.
