Weekend Roundup, July 13 to 16 


There are a lot of weekend events to check out, including celebrating Bastille Day at La Maison Francaise, the Capital Fringe Festival here in Georgetown, the last weekend to see Kusama’s “One with Eternity” at the Hirshhorn, and lots of laughs at The Kennedy Center. Happy weekend! 

Cyrano de Bergerac Opens at Synetic Theater 

The timeless tale of Cyrano de Bergerac opens tomorrow at Synetic Theater in Arlington. The classic tale of unrequited love and heroism is based on the 19th century story by Edmond Rostand and explores themes of love, self-discovery and honor. The show was performed at Synetic Theater in 2019, and the most recent production features the company’s signature silent style with a “commedia dell’arte” twist. Don’t Miss the Last Weekend of “One with Eternity: Yayoi Kusama” at The Hirshhorn 

It’s the last weekend for artist Yayoi Kusama’s exhibit, at The Hirshhorn since April last year. The museum has been collecting the creative’s bountiful work for nearly 30 years. The Hirshhorn has displayed five of Kusama’s works from the museum’s permanent collection, including two of the artist’s infinity mirror rooms. This one is a must-see if you haven’t yet, and it’s worth going back if you have. More information can be found here.

Check Out Archaeology Family Day at Mount Vernon 

Explore how archaeology shaped what we know today about our first president George Washington, his wife Martha and the lives of the enslaved people who lived at Mount Vernon. There will be a Mount Vernon archaeologist on hand to answer questions about their work. More information on the event can be found here.

Happy Bastille Day! Celebrate at La Maison Francaise 

The Comité Tricolore, a French-American Associative Network, is celebrating Bastille Day with “Bastille Day Sur La Côte d’Azur,” an event featuring champagne (of course!), an elegant multi-course seated dinner, live music, a raffle, red carpet and more. Don’t Miss the Capital Fringe Festival 

The Capital Fringe Festival is in Georgetown July 13 through the 16th and again the 20th through 23rd. Enjoy productions from local creatives, including dance performances, punk rock shows and more. G O A L!  The 2023 Major League Soccer All-Star Game vs. Arsenal is Coming 

The Major League Soccer All-Star Game vs. Arsenal may be coming to Audi Field in the middle of the week (July 19 to be exact), but there are events celebrating its arrival for the next week. Don’t miss a celebration at The Wharf, All-Star Challenge Sunday and a concert Sunday featuring singer Kehlani. More information on the festivities can be found here. 

The Lotus & Water Lily Festival Begins Saturday 

The 2023 iteration of the annual Lotus and Water Lily Festival at Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens begins Saturday and runs through Sunday July 23. Enjoy arts programming, ranger presentations and of course the gorgeous water lilies and lotuses in bloom at the gardens. More information on the event can be found here.

Get Ready for some Laughs at The Last Improv Show at The Kennedy Center 

A star-studded cast is currently at The Kennedy Center now through July 23. The Last Improv Show! Live From the Kennedy Center stars performers like SNL’s Ego Nwodim, D’Arcy Carden (Amazon’s “A League of Their Own”), Brandon Scott Jones (CBS’s “Ghosts”) and more. The actors will take to the stage to improvise scenes from true stories told by a special nightly celebrity guest, who are inspired by audience suggestions themselves. It’s a wild and fun ride!
