New Theater J Artistic Director to Speak at Nov. 16 Breakfast  


Hayley Finn, artistic director of Theater J, one of the nation’s leading Jewish theater companies, will be the November speaker in The Georgetowner’s monthly Culture Power Breakfast series. Admission to the event, on Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Four Seasons Hotel, 2800 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, is $40, payable in advance at georgetowner.com or via Eventbrite. 

Previously associate artistic director at Playwrights’ Center, an incubator space in Minneapolis, where she produced hundreds of workshops, Finn joined Theater J last February, succeeding Adam Immerwahr. She is Theater J’s fifth artistic director since its 1990 founding as a program of what is now the Edlavitch DC Jewish Community Center.

Finn has directed shows presented at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, at the Nine Gates Festival in Prague, at several Minnesota theaters and at New York venues such as Cherry Lane Theatre, The Public, The Flea and The Kitchen. She has also served as assistant director of Broadway productions, including the Tony Award-winning 1997 revival of Arthur Miller’s “A View from the Bridge.” Her undergraduate and graduate degrees are from Brown University. 

At the Nov. 16 breakfast, she will talk about the meaning and role of contemporary Jewish theater and how she plans to explore these themes at Theater J. 

Since 2014, The Georgetowner has presented 53 insider talks by leaders of area museums, theater and dance companies, performing arts venues and other cultural organizations. The current series sponsors are Long & Foster and Doyle.
