Can you believe it? Christmas will be here next weekend. Hanukkah ends Friday. Kwanzaa starts Dec. 26. Basically, the holiday season is flying by! Here are some ideas for what to do this weekend. Enjoy!
Don’t Make a Big (Okay Huge!) Mistake and Miss ‘Pretty Woman: The Musical’
With a score by Grammy winner Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance, “Pretty Woman: The Musical” is base on the 1990 romantic comedy of the same name. The show will be at The National Theatre one week only, ending this Sunday. Featured in the musical is the 1964 classic song “Oh, Pretty Woman,” by Roy Orbison and Bill Dee. The Washington National Cathedral Hosts the King’s Singers
Friday evening, see a capella group the King’s Singers perform “Christmas with the King’s Singers.” The group is known for their large vocal range, infectious holiday spirit and enthralling shows. More information on how to get tickets can be found here.

‘A Candlelight Christmas’ with the Washington Chorus
The annual tradition continues with performances Friday at the Music Center at Strathmore and Saturday at The Kennedy Center and more into next week. The holiday program features spirited brass, special guests and of course, The Washington Chorus. The Chorus is celebrating its 62nd season this year. More information on tickets can be found here.
Cathedral Choral Society Celebrates ‘Joy of Christmas’
Don’t miss Cathedral Choral Society’s “Joy of Christmas” show at Washington National Cathedral. Shows will be Saturday at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m. The tradition continues at this event for all ages that features brand-new and traditional holiday carols. The Christmas Revels Takes on ‘The Magical Medieval Tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight’
The Washington Revels will be performing their 41st annual Christmas Revels this weekend. This time, they’re transporting guests to Camelot, to the age of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. The tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is intertwined as well, along with English and French medieval music. The age recommendation is eight to 92, so everyone can enjoy the show! ‘A Baroque Christmas Story’ with Folger Consort
The Folger Consort’s annual holiday concerts have been a local tradition since 1977. This year, enjoy eight performances of “A Baroque Christmas Story” at St. Mark’s on Capitol Hill. Performances begin Friday and go through the following Friday. The show will feature an ensemble of seven singers and 10 instrumentalists. More information on how to get tickets can be found here.

Monumental Theatre Company Hosts ‘Sunday Funday’
Don’t miss a holiday extravaganza Sunday when Monumental Theatre Company hosts its second annual Sunday Funday. The event will feature a cast of local musical theater talent and singing drag queens, as well as a three-piece band directed by Marika Countouris. The performance will take place at 3 p.m. in the black box theatre at the Ainslie Arts Center on the campus of Episcopal High School in Alexandria. More information on the event can be found here.
Enjoy a Winter Chalet Experience at the Intercontinental at the Wharf
The Intercontinental Washington, D.C. at the Wharf is transporting their guests to the Swiss Alps this winter with their Winter Chalet Experience. Starting at $110 per person, groups of six to 10 can enjoy a four-course meal with optional wine pairings. Each chalet is decorated with twinkling lights, live greenery and cozy blankets. Don’t Miss ‘Messiah’ with the National Philharmonic
The National Philharmonic is performing Messiah beginning this weekend. Conducted by Piotr Gajewiski, music director, for the first time at the Music Center at Strathmore and Capital One Hall, the performance will feature soprano Aundi Marie Moore, mezzo soprano Lucia Bradford, tenor Norman Shankle and baritone Jorell Williams. The Baltimore Choral Arts Society is also returning to share the stage with the National Philharmonic Orchestra. A portion of the proceeds from Strathmore performances will be donated to the 2nd Century Project to help with the restoration of the Scotland African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Zion Church.
