More than 250 managers, waiters, bartenders walked through the halls of the John A. Wilson District Building July 9, urging Council members to void the vote to eliminate the lower minimum wage for tipped employees.
Initiative 77, making it District law to guarantee every full-time employee a minimum wage of $15 an hour by 2025, passed 55 percent to 45 percent. An online petition is being circulated to “Continue the fight – bring 77 to City Council!”
Initiative 77, which proposes to match the lower minimum wage for tipped employees (currently $3.33) to the minimum wage for all others (currently $12.50) by 2026, is on the June 19 primary ballot.
The hall at Visitation School was standing room only Feb. 26, and the commission devoted over an hour to two proposals by Commissioners Jim Wilcox and Peter Murphy.
The plan would allow residents to park on both sides of the street, while out-of-zone parkers could only park on one designated side for two hours.
