Celebrity Sighting: Glenn Close (photos)

We spotted actress Glenn Close and husband David E. Shaw outside the entrance to the Newseum in Washington D.C. to attend the 60th birthday party for John S. Hendricks, the Founder and Chairman of Discovery Communications on Friday, March 30. Hendricks received a surprise gift, a 1968 full restored white Chevrolet Camaro.

Flemenco Festival 2012 at Lisner Auditorium featuring Rafaela Carrasco (photos)

Flamenco is a unique art form that combines dancing, guitar playing, singing, and a stocatto handclapping. It is native to the Andalusian region of southern Spain and may have been influenced by the Gypsies, and in part from Spain’s early Morrish culture. Seville’s Rafaela Carrasco is a breathtaking dancer and one of the most important flamenco choreographers of the younger generation. Over 13,000 gathered for the annual AIPAC Policy Conference in Washington D.C. on March 4-6, 2012. AIPAC, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, is a pro-Israel lobby group. Speakers included Presdent Barack Obama, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Israeli President Shimon Peres and many of the GOP Presidential Candidates. Bowen McCauley Dance Aims High (photos)


Bowen McCauley Dance performed the ambitious “Le Sacre du Printemps” (“Rite of Spring”) to glowing reviews on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater. The husband and wife team of Fabio and Gisele Witkowski provided the music with a lively four-hand piano arrangement of the famous Stravinsky score. ‘Every Four Years: Presidential Campaigns and the Press’ Exhibit Opens at the Newseum (photos)

Every four years, Americans elect a president, and candidates and reporters face off on the campaign trail. On Feb. 17, just in time for Presidents’ Day weekend, the Newseum is opening a new election year exhibit, “Every Four Years: Presidential Campaigns and the Press” featuring 120 artifacts from elections past. The exhibit will be open through the next inauguration day and will close Jan. 27, 2013. It is sponsored by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and The Washington Examiner. A 250,000-square-foot interactive museum of news, the Newseum is located at the intersection of Pennsyvania Ave. and Sixth St., NW, in Washington, D.C. Clint Eastwood Receives Medal, Opens New Warner Bros. 3-D Theater at Smithsonian American History Museum (photos)

At a special ceremony marking the opening of the new Warner Bros. Theater at the National Museum of American History, the Smithsonian presented Clint Eastwood with the James Smithson Bicentennial Medal in honor of Eastwood’s contribution to the American Experience through film. The Warner Bros. Theater is a modern facility with state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment, incuding 3-D capability, made possible by a $5 million donation by Warner Bros. Entertainmemt.
