A Saturday night drive along Rock Creek Parkway turned deadly as a car slid into the Potomac. One survivor swam to shore and told responders of the two left in the car.

On Sunday, the Metropolitan Police Department issued a press release asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who burglarized a Five Guys location on Irving Street NW in Columbia Heights last month.

According to the famed burger chain’s security footage, released by the police department, a man entered the restaurant, got a drink from the soda fountain and cooked himself a couple burgers while talking on his phone. He then stole bottled water and made his exit.

The video shows a man in a fedora with a spatula, rummaging through cabinets and wandering around the kitchen while preparing his meal on the grill.

According to the release, the perpetrator originally entered Five Guys by following a delivery person inside. The incident, which took place between 3 and 5 a.m. on March 18, has been classified as second-degree burglary.

Anyone with information that could lead to the apprehension of the burger burglar is being asked to call police at 202-727-9099 or to text the tip line at 50411.

D.C. parking meter rates are set to go up June 1, a lot. All will increase to $2.30 per hour. That’s a 30-percent increase in Premium Demand and Commercial Zones and it more than triples the cost of residential-area parking meters, currently $.75 per hour.

The District Department of Transportation stands to take an additional $2 million out of street-parkers’ pockets during the four months in fiscal year 2016 that the new rates will be in effect. The added funds are expected to help pay for the Metro system’s operations and deferred maintenance.

Noting the recent $5 increase in the cost of parking tickets in D.C., AAA Mid-Atlantic spokesman John Townsend said, “It is the latest case of motorists getting nickel and dimed for parking. … Now in two weeks, they will pay even more to park as parking meter rates jump more than 200 percent at some meters, and 15 percent at most.”

But there is some belief that the higher cost to park will increase street-parking turnover and relieve traffic congestion. According to DDOT: “The goal of good parking management is to regulate the parking assets (spaces) in a manner that ensures that a percentage of spaces are available at any given time for short term parking. This is vital for maximizing the potential flow of customers to the District’s retail and dining establishments. Additionally, controlling congestion and improving traffic circulation are becoming increasingly important.”

The Obamas just can’t quit D.C. — that is, until Sasha finishes high school. The first family has chosen to stick around the area until their younger daughter Sasha finishes her schooling at Sidwell Friends.

The Independent Journal Review reported Wednesday that the Obamas have selected Kalorama as their new neighborhood. The choice wasn’t much of a surprise to Washingtonians. After all, though Michelle Obama is a regular at the West End Soul Cycle, the neighborhood is a little tight for former White House dwellers.

Former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy tried to relocate back to Georgetown on N Street after President Kennedy was assassinated, but the number of people who came by out of curiosity proved to be too much; off to Manhattan she and her family went.

Downtown wouldn’t be suitable either, despite how much the president and first lady love downtown dining. It’s just too urban for a family that needs post-White House privacy.

Their chosen abode is an 8,000-square-foot home on Belmont Road, with nine bedrooms and eight bathrooms. Owned by Joe Lockhart, its current value is $6.35 million. The house has been without a full-time resident since January of this year, after Lockhart left for New York City to become the NFL’s executive vice president of communications.

Perks include parking for up to 10 cars and a spacious in-law suite, perfect for Mrs. Obama’s mother, Marian Robinson.
