•Christine Lilyea of Slash Run in Petworth plans to open Runaway, where Steel Plate used to be at 3523 12th St. NE in Brookland. It’s inspired by Joan Jett — the early years. The plan for the multi-level space is to open a pub, an outdoor patio and a music venue, with a live DJ as well as musicians.
Wren, a Japanese-American restaurant, is slated to open in Tysons’s new Watermark Hotel at Capital One Center in early Q4 2021. Its executive chef, Yo Matsuzaki, who worked for Masaharu Morimoto, built his D.C. reputation at Zentan at the Kimpton Donovan hotel at Thomas Circle.
Denver-based Tom’s Watch Bar is slated to open at The Kelvin at 1250 Half St. SE, just outside Nationals Park in Q3 2022. This sports bar-restaurant is brought to you by Tom Ryan, founder of Smashburger. Its neighbors within The Kelvin will include Swinger’s Crazy Golf and Silver Diner.
Ch-Ch-Changes: Knead Hospitality + Design’s Succotash in Penn Quarter renovated as a steakhouse and reopened as Succotash Prime. Half the menu is new. Nashville hot oysters are still available. #thankful. Open for dinner and weekend brunch only, so far.
Quick Hits: Luna Hall food hall, opening where Vapiano used to be at 623-625 H St. NW, will feature seven different Asian food stalls by Zong Chen. It will also include Kung Fu Tea and TKK Fried Chicken outlets. A late Q1 2022 opening is targeted….Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips, a fast-casual concept, is slated to open in Penn Quarter at Seventh and E streets NW, where Vivi used to be. There are two others currently — in Orlando and Las Vegas…Darden Restaurants’ Yard House plans to open in a renovated former Macy’s store at the Tysons Galleria….Chef Andrew Markert of Beuchert’s Saloon, and Fight Club sandwich pop up, plans to open Newland before year’s end at 327 Seventh St. SE, where the iconic Montmartre used to be. With a nod to Baltimore, expect Hamm’s beer, “from the land of pleasant living…”
Peruvian bar, Inca Social, in Vienna, plans to open a second location in Rosslyn at 1776 Wilson Blvd., featuring a market and dedicated ceviche and sushi counter. The big space will also have a pan-Latin ghost kitchen. Michael Ciuffardi will be executive chef for both places.
Just opened: Cracked Eggery, serving breakfast for breakfast, lunch and dinner at 3420 Connecticut Ave. NW in Cleveland Park, with plans to open 24/7 in Shaw at 1921 8th St. NW. …Maison Cheryl at 2900 Wilson Blvd. in Clarendon by chef/owner Robert Maher, serving French-New American food and targeting older millennials….Jane Jane cocktail bar at 1705 14th St. NW at Logan Circle brought to you by Jean Paul Sabatier, formerly of Rappahannock Oyster Bar, Maydan and Compass Rose, and Ralph Brabham and Drew Porterfield, owners of Beau Thai and BKK Cookshop.
