The ultra opulent “Capital Gatsby New Year’s Eve Gala” will be at 1385 Canal St. SE beginning at 9 p.m. Attire is Roaring ‘20s Great Gatsby (of course), so bring out your best flapper dresses and pinstripe suits. See a Historic Event at the Lincoln Memorial on New Year’s Day

A historic bell from 1863 will be rung 160 times on New Year’s Day on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to mark the anniversary of President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. New Year’s Day 2023 marks 160 years since the document that freed people held in bondage in rebel states was introduced. As part of this occasion, after brief remarks, 16 people will toll a bell 10 times, adding up to the historic anniversary number.
