Gala for Washington Global Celebrates School’s 8th Year


The Annual Showcase Benefit of the Washington Global Charter School was held at the stunning Qatar America Institute for Culture on June 7.

Following a reception, eighth-grade student Kaidyn Bennett, an Archbishop Carroll Scholarship recipient, opened the program. Board Chair Teresa Curristine then gave remarks. CEO and Co-Founder Elizabeth Torres noted that the sixth-through-eighth grade school has graduated over 1200 student since opening in 2015.

The Alumni Spotlight was on 2019 graduate Danae Williams, an American University Merit Scholarship Recipient. A special tribute was paid to the late Debbie Sigmund, an avid champion on the school.

Washington Global touts a program designed as a “robust international and research-based academic program to develop globally competitive students…” Its academic curriculum and approach includes project-based learning, small learning communities, technology instruction, arts, and foreign language classes in Spanish and Korean. The charter school provides students from underserved areas with a high quality education.
