Shutdown Specials in Georgetown

During the partial federal shutdown, Georgetown’s waterfront Sequoia restaurant, located at 3000 K St. NW in Washington Harbour, is offering a minimum of 10 percent off for federal employees — with additional discounts for those employed longer than 10 years, based on the number of years: 20 percent off for 20-year veterans of the national bureaucracy, 30 percent off for those who’ve racked up 30 years with Uncle Sam and so on.

That’s just one of the shutdown deals for federal employees that the Georgetown Business Improvement District is promoting as part of its campaign to tell diners, shoppers and visitors that #georgetownisopen. The BID’s Clean Team is even pitching in to keep Georgetown’s National Park Service sites tidy (the NPS announced today that it will resume maintenance in the D.C. area starting Jan. 11).

The edible specials for government badge-holders include: free sandwiches from 2 to 5 p.m. at the bar at José Andrés’s America Eats Tavern, 3139 M St. NW; one free pizza per government ID from 6 to 8 p.m. at &Pizza, 1335 Wisconsin Ave. NW; a free cup of Compass Coffee with any purchase at District Doughnut, 3327 Cady’s Alley NW; 20 percent off cases of wine, 15 percent off three to six bottles and 10 percent off liquor at Bacchus Wine Cellar, 1635 Wisconsin Ave. NW; a free glass of prosecco with any purchase in the evening or at weekend brunch at the Alex at The Graham Georgetown, 1075 Thomas Jefferson St. NW; 20 percent off at Haagen-Dazs, 3120 M St. NW; 20 percent off at Ristorante Piccolo, 1068 31st St. NW; two appetizers and any 12-inch pizza for $30 at Pizzeria Paradiso, 3282 M St. NW; a free cup of coffee with any purchase at Olivia Macaron, 3222 M St. NW; a free shepherd’s pie during lunch or dinner at Rí Rá, 3125 M St. NW; and a free signature salad at Sweetgreen, 1044 Wisconsin Ave. NW, from Friday, Jan. 11, to Sunday, Jan. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m.
